This region is famous for its sprawling farmland and historic significance; cross-country ski tours are a popular diversion. Explore the trails at Codorus, Memorial Lake, and Pine Grove Furnace. Gifford Pinchot State Park draws visitors to its placid lake for ice boating and ice fishing for large-mouth bass. In Lancaster County, Susquehannock State Park offers glorious panoramic views of the Susquehanna River Valley, including a view of Mount Johnson Island, a sanctuary for bald eagles and other birds of prey.
